Homemade Kettle Corn

Darren:  “What are you making?”

Me:  “Kettle Corn.”

“Where did you buy it?”

“You don’t buy it, you make it.”

“I’m pretty sure you need a special pan for that, that keeps it from burning.”

They didn’t say anything about a special pan.”

“Who’s they?”

“You know, the blogland people.”

“Hmm.”

“All the instructions are over there on the blog, and they promise it won’t burn if you do it just like that.”

From the other room, “Eww, mom what’s that smell?” As the kids trickle into the room, “What are you trying  to make?  Is it supposed to be smoking like that?” “What’s the matter, did you run out of microwave popcorn?”

“Microwave popcorn is expensive and nutritionally inferior.”

“Maybe, but it’s edible.”

This is way off topic, but I love the bowl. I hardly ever pay attention to the dishes, but it is just beautiful. BTW, I love kettle corn; I’ve only had the microwave kind though.

Thanks, Jennifer. I did something funny :). I went to Old Time Pottery and bought just 1 of every dish that I adored. They averaged $1-2 each. Now I have a small stack of dishes for food styling. So fun and sometimes we serve dinner and let everyone pick a different dish to eat from.

I make kettle corn alot. I make a batch of regular and a batch of kettel corn and mix the 2 together. I bought a WhirleyPop popcorn maker and it works great. Best popcorn and as long as you turn the handle no burnt offerings either.

Everyone’s a critic! Hahaha. It drives me nuts when my husband comes in and says, “What are you *trying* to do?”
Also I think that “You don’t buy it, you make it” will soon become the new motto in my house. We’ve been working towards unprocessed foods. I love your blog! Thanks for all you do.

Well, you try new things and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. One day my daughter walked into the house and said “What are you cooking?” Nothing. “Then why does it smell like smoke in here?” She equates smoke with me making dinner. Sigh. I’ll get better at it someday, right? 😉

I’m with Tammy…the Whirley Poppper is a MUST for kettle Corn. I did the exact burning thing and had our kids crept in asking the same question! But…it’s oh SOOOO dangerous!! Now we eat kettle corn A LOT because it’s so easy and yummy….but, there’s a lot of oil and sugar per 1 batch…it’s GOT to be high calorie! yikes!!!

I love making caramel corn. I was just experimenting one day and decided to add butter and brown sugar and it came out wonderful. I use a cast iron skillet and an old castoff glass lid that just happens to fit my castiron perfectly. we have a lot of fun making popcorn. We have had one batch burn (of course it had to be when we had company over and I was trying to show how “easy” it was to do), but otherwise it has been easy and fun.

    I hear you amy!

My mom gave me her recipe. She fixes huge patches of it when she comes to my house. We all end of fighting over it and I hide it from the kids as a joke. Seeing them look for it is a great laugh. …then I take it out and share…. :o)
