At the last minute, I decided to participate in the Write 31 Days blog challenge. I participated two years ago and loved how it challenged me to post more often.
I took the year off last year, but am jumping back in this time with 31 Pumpkin Recipes :). Some are recipes I’ve had in my rotation for a bit, and some are brand new being tested in my kitchen as we speak. Some are savory, but most are sweet.
Before we can cook much with pumpkin, we need a good pumpkin spice recipe and I’m proud to offer you my own blend, which has gotten thumbs up all around from my recipe testers.
This recipe makes enough to fill a 2 1/2 oz spice jar, or you can quadruple it for a pint canning jar. All spices are their ground versions.
4 Tbs Cinnamon
2 Tbs Nutmeg
2 Tbs Ginger
1 Tbs Allspice
1 Tbs Cloves
If you are a Libby’s pumpkin pie fan, leave out the nutmeg and allspice, and you’ll have their famous blend.
I can’t close without telling you where I get my spices for less. I buy what I can from Aldi. The spices are fresh tasting, and are a generous 5.5 oz size bottle for $1.29. Walmart also has some $1 options. The more seasonal spices, like cloves and nutmeg are rarely in the $1 rack, but Big Lots has a nice selection of them in slightly smaller bottles for $1.
Do you have a favorite pumpkin spice blend? If it’s not a secret, share your favorite in the comments, plus your favorite place to buy herbs and spices.

Thanks for the recipe, they don’t sell pumpkin pie spice in Australia, now I can make my own 🙂
Yay! I’m glad it helps. I didn’t realize pumpkin spice wasn’t a world wide phenomenon :).
You know that scene in Finding Nemo…. at the end when Dory says….”oh this is going to be good”? That’s how I feel right now.
Nicci, this makes me so happy!
I’m sure you’ve seen it before, but Aldi has a seasonal baking endcap with baking spices. I stock up and use them year around. Not sure of pricing, but believe price is lower than those small jars at the grocery store. I know it’s the only place I can get a large jar of cream of tartar.
Yes! Aldi’s are $1.69 each for about 2.5 oz. Not bad if your only other option is the grocery store, but Big Lots is a slightly better deal at $1 for the same amount.
