To make the list, the tutorials needed to be useful, adorable, free, super easy, use small amounts of materials, and be fast to make. Like I woke up late Saturday morning, and the shower’s at 2pm and I don’t have a gift yet, fast to make.

You’ll need a bib to use as a pattern for this one, but it’s a great concept for using up scraps.
I didn’t use drool bibs until I found these. They didn’t cover up a cute outfit, they MADE a cute outfit.
Drool bibs for the little ladies :).
This scrappy bib tutorial comes with a printable pattern.
When Grant was born I made 2 of these out of Minky. Oh man, everyone was jealous. He still loves them 3 years later. We moved him to a toddler bed instead of a twin bed, so he could still have his sheets.
Both free and paid options at this site. Such cuties!
Baby leg warmers from sweater arms
Baby leg warmers from socks
Baby tights from recycled t-shirts.
Tie onesies! These are fast and easy to make and so cute! Now little man can get all dressed up for church.
Crocheted baby turban. So cute! So fast! And just takes a bit of yarn.
This is a doll quilt, but the same principle works for a baby quilt, start with a 45 inch square backing and batting. You can also, just do strips across instead of a log cabin look. I made one of these for a shower in 2 hours one Saturday morning. It’s an impressive gift that uses scraps and a short amount of time.
Use 1 yard to make a receiving blanket and 2 burp cloths.
Gown made from a t-shirt, printable pattern.
Knotted Baby Hat printable pattern
Crocheted Peacoat (I made one like this and it turned out darling!)
These are great ideas; thank you so much for sharing them!
Thanks, Karen. I’m motivated to do some baby crafting 🙂
Your timing is PERFECT!!! I have a nephew on the way. We want to give them what they need most (funds for supplies), but I feel the strong desire to send some fun items, too. A couple of these will be fun for me and not break the budget 🙂
Elizabeth, A new baby is so exciting! Congrats. I’d love to see if you make something. Can you post to instagram and send it to me?
Great options! The bibs are cute, the blocks and tag toy are fun, the one yard gift looks super simple and I am making the baby quilt for an upcoming niece! My first quilt project–I am slightly terrified, but you made it sound simple especially if you sew all the pieces as you go! I started blocking today, and I’m just concerned about the threads. Since they aren’t tying off and they aren’t at ends of the fabric (specifically on the backside of the quilt) won’t the threads come undone?
Katie, I’m so glad you are trying the quilt! When I made mine, the stitching from the new line, overlapped the stitching from the previous line a little, so the threads were locked in. But if you are worried about it, there’s nothing wrong with backstitching neatly. Definitely don’t want the threads coming loose. The quilt is bound to be well loved and washed often.
Thanks for sharing these awesome ideas! H1 and I made bibs yesterday and are trying out the lion toy today!! SO cute!
Ooh, fun. Gena. I’m excited to see if Stevenson #7 is a boy or a girl to inspire some sewing around here too.
