I just found a tutorial online to make play dirt from foam and felt, plants to plant in it with strawberries or pea pods that you can pick (with the aid of velcro). This would make the perfect snowy day craft for families wishing for spring. I think I have all the materials in my basement somewhere. Now to find some time.
