Haircut!

I’ve had my hair long for years.  Darren prefers long hair and I do too.  But mine was damaged from too many highlights and too few trims.  Plus it’s thin and stringy when it gets very long. I rolled over it one too many times with my stability ball while doing some Fit Yummy Mummy exercises and was annoyed with the longness of it all.

So I whacked it off.  What I mean is I hired Susan Guthrie to whack it off.   I had intended to go blond, but I showed Susan so many photos off pinterest that it was a little confusing.  We decided that the next time I go in she could lighten it.  But for now, I love it. This was a big decision for me simply because I usually get my hair done in the shop once a year.  A dramatic change in color, means more maintenance, more time spent, and more money.  Darren said he’d work it out since he’s been curious how I’d look blond for awhile.

I’m glad to get some time before seeing it very blond.  I’ve always believed there was a little glamour to being blond and my business coach and fitness coach–have it. That’s them below.

Carrie and Holly

And then there’s my first business mentor ever–Andrea Whitcomb, my Mary Kay director who is a gorgeous blond too–and just as pretty inside as out.

Maybe because I admire these ladies so much that I don’t feel quite worthy of the blond.  But I’m getting enough gray that a little lightening helps to bring it out.

Any way, Here’s some before and after photos:

I’m sure you’ll love having shorter, more manageable hair, and it’s so pretty on you!

I went from brunette to very light blonde for about a year. It was fun, but very high maintenance & pricey to maintain, even doing it myself, so I’ve returned to brunette for the time being. I think what you have now, with the brunette highlights, looks lovely.

Thank you for the tips Lila. I haven’t seen you in person in so long! I’m going to check out your progress journal at FYM and see if you have a 4 week update photo so I can see your hair :).

    I LOVE IT!

I had long hair me entire life and last April I did a pixie cut (1″ was the longest). I have always wanted to go short, just never had enough guts. After our 3rd daughter I did it. It is so much harder for me to deal with vs. longer hair….with 3 young girls, I don’t have the time to work on me until later on in the day. I would walk around with “peacock” hair for hours. 😉 NOT COOL! Don’t even get me started on how hard it has been for me to grow out…I’m on month 7 and it’s killin’ me! I think I like my face better in shorter hair, it’s just not the “season” for me to have short hair…

How nice that you can still do a pony!

Nanie, So funny, I would trade it all away for curly, lol. My hair is fine textured and looks thin and stringy unless I use a lot of product and effort.

    Looks great Angela!
I’ve been playing with the idea of going short with my do too. Still undecided.

I like the shorter length! I am a natural brunette who has gone pretty blonde with heavy highlights for the last few years and I love it! It helps the gray blend in, especially when the gray is wiry and coarse. It is higher maintenance, but I’ve been doing my own by pulling it through a cap. You can get everything you need to touch it up at Sally’s for around $6. I go to the salon about once a year to get it professionally done. That seems to help keep my hair from looking like it’s done by me, and keeps the cost down significantly.

Christy, What a great idea! I’ve been scared to try it myself, but with the right kit, it might turn out ok. I agree–I love how highlights blend away the gray. I’m turning gray a lot faster than my mom did…

It’s sassy! I just had my hair cut really short too. I love it! And if I really want I can still put it in a ponytail. 😉
