Organizing is awesome. I’m not saying I’m good at it, but I really appreciate it. When I’m organized I save time and get more done. I can find things. My rooms look lovely. Organizing saves money. On the surface, it doesn’t look like it–especially if you need to purchase some things to get the job done right. But when you know where your stuff is and can get to it, you don’t buy it again because you can’t find it.
I hope you will be ready with your tips and ideas in the comments every day. Here’s what’s up this week so you can open your mental files:
Monday: How to organize almost anything
Tuesday: Organizing wrapping paper, cards, and gifting
Wednesday: Linen Closets and Medicines
Thursday: Sewing and Craft Areas
Friday: Clothes
Saturday: Kid’s papers, rooms and toys
I’m making a distinction this week between organizing and cleaning. Organizing is decluttering and giving every necessary object a home that is convenient to use. Cleaning is removing dirt. Cleaning an organized space takes very little time 🙂
Oh I so need this! British rooms are so much smaller than US rooms, with NO basement. I lived near Detroit for a while and so miss the space. I have one room, large for us, 14′ x 10′, as a joint study with my husband, there is a narrow trail to each of our cluttered desks with overspilling boxes piled around us. It is slightly better than previously but a long way to go. New ideas will be invigorating!
Pat and Amy, I’m excited right with you. My office is a DISASTER. I’m posting ideas for me too, to get some inspiration going. Wish I could write a post about how fantastic I am at organizing, lol. That will be the day….
Organizing – what a great topic for the new year! And the other benefit of organizing are LESS STRESS! you don’t have clutter around to worry your mind – you find things when you need them (less stress), you can clean a lot easier (less stress), you can have fun because you are not stress over having a messy house, you can invite people over with no worry because you don’t have to woryy – is my house clean? – I just have one room that needs MAJOR attention – but it is my “office” The past few years I have let it go and have thought – well it is my work room I don’t have to have it pretty. Well, WRONG! it stresses me out – especially when someone wants to come over and work on something IN that room. New year – new focus. Thanks for the inspirations and week to work on it
I can’t wait to hear the ideas for kids toys. Our are a mess right now since we got a whole lot of new ones and I’m working on moving my 1.5 year old into the 3 year olds room to make room in the nursery for #3. 🙂
Pat – we in the US do not ALL have basements – Down in Texas – we never have basements. I have often envied those with basements. But, I would probably just fill up that space too! so, it is good to forced to think about what you will be needing and what you don’t. I have always like the principle – something in, something out – but have a hard time following thru with it. 🙂
Looking forward to clothes and kids papers, right now my biggest challenges are school books, ( how much do I really need? )papers, toys and clothes. Although I could use some help with the sewing and knitting I have it in the closet in the girls room and our closet and bedroom.
