Spending Freeze Day 21: Heidi’s 15th Birthday

I’m busy today getting ready for Heidi’s birthday. She’s all in on the spending freeze so we’re pulling out the storage decorations and having a fun family dinner with board games. I still have a lot of cleaning to do, but here’s where it is so far:

White plastic table cloth with plain dot stickers…. It was so thin, we stuck a real white table cloth underneath, but it will make clean up better.

I have 90 minutes to mop my floors, wash 100 dishes, assemble a cake and hang the balloons.  While I’m doing that, it’s time for your 3rd week reflection.  How is the spending freeze going for you so far?  Are you tempted to go for another month?

It looks beautiful! That’s more decorating than we do at our house even when we’re not in a spending freeze.

This spending freeze is going great – I’m so happy I joined you. I am already planning to do another freeze next month. I can’t wait to see the full detail of actual money spent/saved this month.

    Happy Birthday, Heidi!!

    Hi Angela,
The decorations look great and I hope Heidi has a great birthday. I intend to continue using a lot of the strategies in this spending freeze. I am determined to make the best use of our grocery budget.

We continue to not spend money we normally would. I mean even when we are trying to save money we still don’t do like we are doing it now. I think I needed this so much to clean out the pantry, shelves, freezers and even the second fridge. It’s crazy to buy fresh vegetables and fruit when I have an overstuffed freezer. Actually, today I found some apples from last Fall’s apple harvest (in a drawer in our extra fridge.) Mostly they are bad, but I cut the good parts off and gave the rest to the chickens. It’s a shame that we bought other fruit and used canned applesauce and let that go to waste. I find myself really wanting to simplify. I think all we bought this week was milk. Hmmm…
Anyway, I hope the birthday party was nice. Isn’t it lovely when you have children that encourage you?! What a sweet girl she must be. Isn’t she the one who talked you into getting the turkey out of your fridge instead of going to the store?

Liz, It feels so good to get clean and organized and really know what you have, doesn’t it? Yes, Heidi is the one who talked me into turkey instead of going to the store. Thinking about cooking a turkey was harder than actually doing it, lol. She is a dear girl and I’m so thankful for her!

While I have had some fun figuring out all of this no spending, I am ready to head to target! I will absolutely continue to make the most of what I have and even maybe cut back some. Yesterday I was given a breadmaker (a coworker was going to put it in the trash!) and I really think that will help me stay on top of making our bread. So, though I want to go to target with $30 or so, I am going to keep working on spending as little as possible, because it is possible. 😉

Rebecca, I have a short list of stuff I’ve been saving for February too….I’m on the fence about Freezing again in February, but March is a strong contender :).
