I was so happy to receive a soft little package yesterday in the mail from www.lace-mart.com I stitched it up in the quiet of the evening and now have this:
I like the look of the skirt on the washer. It just makes me happy and feels right to have my maidservant all dressed up, but the elastic in the casing isn’t working out. It stretches and sags down. Any ideas to attach it better?
I would try a little sticky back velcro. It would help to add a little extra support, but isn’t permanent.
The only way to attach this is by using velcro. You can buy velcro is combination sew on loop and adhesive-backed hook tape. I saw it at my local WalMart just this week.
Here is an example: http://www.velcro.com/index.php?page=consumer-products-sewing-and-crafts-home-decor
I did this when attaching a sink skirt in my bathroom and it worked wonderfully. It has held up to many years (and many kids) of use.
HOT glue it! It peels right off if you ever need to take out. Or you could use velcro but, I’m guessing you have hot glue right now in your house!
Use the velcro – you can then detach the skirt to wash when needed. Like Mary, I did this for a bath sink and it held up beautifully for 5 years, hiding an ugly cabinet. Finally replaced the sink/cabinet combo with a pedestal sink but kept the skirt because I LOVE the fabric (and I can repurpose it!!)
